Yellow Boot Farm

Celebrating Year 4!!!

We're very excited to be offering weekly delivery of freshly harvested veggies and berries. It's like a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), but without the unwanted veggies! Email or text for details.

We are also partaking in a dry-farming experiment again this year with KPU, Oregon State, and The Dry Farming Institute. Watch our Instagram for details.

We will be at the occasional Farmers Market this year, either Saturday or Sunday in Merville. Hope to see you there!

Our first year proved quite challenging with a wet spring, compact silt based soils and so many pest! Wire worm, flea beetle, deer and slugs to name a few.

We are focusing a little more on basic crops this year and moving away from potatoes, sadly. They are my favourite crop to grow, but the wire worm makes it a risky crop.

We will be at the various Farmers Markets this summer. Come see us there for your staple crops, but also for something a little different!

With the increase in drought conditions on Vancouver Island we have decided we need to try something new. Rain barrels are great, but they too can run dry. Trucking in water is not a long-term solution.

What if there's a way, we can make more efficient use of the water already in the soil by taking better care of our soil. Cover crops, dust mulch, and seed selection all play a part in this experiment.

We're looking forward to giving a try for a second year and telling other farmers and home gardeners what we learn.
